The Hanging Tree

~James Newton Howard

This is a piece by one of my favorite film composers. The Hunger Games trilogy was my favorite childhood book series and the film score delivers a wide range of intense rhythms and emotional melodies. Ever time I play this song, the words of the Hanging Tree are sung in my head.

This is one of my favorite opening numbers because the melody carries so much weight for setting the stakes for the beginning of this film.

I love playing this song because it represents my love for music, ballet, and Christmas! Many years ago, I played this song for a Christmas recital as a young music student and now it is a favorite piece of mine every holiday season.
